My first blog on my cancer experience.

I know there are a lot of great blogs and sites available out there, but, I feel, at times, they have a negative appearance and lack upfront comments on the reality of what we have to go through. So, I think its time to add a bit of pazaz, colour and reality to the cancer blog.

Cancer treatments and support have moved on significantly and with survival rates increasing, there's been a lot of very positive progress being made. But, no matter the positive changes, we still experience 'the down times', and for those of you reading this, no matter your illness or disease or disability, i am sure we can all share that 'down time' experience.

Being in possessing of an illness or disease or disability diagnosis will, in most cases, have a major impact on our lives, both physically and psychologically. But, I think we are in approaching a period where we can confidently and without stigma, open up and challenge society with the real impacts a diagnosis can have and how for example the treatments, the coping with possible job loss, the ripple effect on families can have and our attempts at coping with the trauma.

Some of us may have a network of family and friends but others may not be as fortunate and have to cope alone in isolation.

Anyway..here is the start of my first blog attempt....

Hormone Injections!!! Aagh!!! sore and left a bruise for a day or two and the fatigue!!!

Its been a strange week. I never used to get bad colds but since the hormone injections started in January

I have had the cold quite a few times. What a pain. Not sure if it is the therapy or just picking up a cold like 'normal' people. I remember my nurse discussing where to inject this horrible stuff. I preferred to have my injection on the side of my abdomen rather than my bottom as my father said his injections were sore on his bottom so I decided to follow suit. Sitting on my back end would be a right pain.

I will discuss hormones in depth in a later blog...

Apart from the nasty injections, this weekend I have been preparing for my backwards walk on Sunday even though the cold has made my fatigue worse. So, no training this week. No matter, my wife and I have been practicing the walk along Irvine Beach over the past few months and ready to take on the challenge. People say we are mad but if it helps bring attention to our cause, who cares? You should see the looks we get walking backwards along the beach! I have found it a great way to exercise with a partner (my wife acts as a spotter) without having to jog my backside off. I have footballers knee anyway.

More on the walk soon. We aim to raise £500 and close to £400 at present so thanks to all those who donated.

First attempt over.
