In 2017, I completed my 8klm Backwards Walk challenge. This was a beach walk from Irvine to Troon (try it, not easy). It was tough given the poor weather but a huge thanks to the people who made the effort to attempt the walk. At the end of the walk, I met a fellow cancer sufferer who was unfortunately diagnosed last December and about to travel to The Beatson for 7 weeks radiotherapy. It was so satisfying chatting about how we cope with having cancer and the impact it has on your life. I think off the cuff chats like that are extremely important and in some cases can prove useful. Since the BBC programme, I have met so many people telling me their stories related to cancer. Some with good news others not so good. But what they say to me is they admire my openness about the subject. I only hope that more people can find the courage to do the same. Early detection is the key to saving lives. Personally, I have raised around £1300 so far for Ayrshire Cancer Support. More to come from others. Not too late to donate
